Have you ever wanted to know more about your trainer outside of their skill of counting reps and torturing you? With a few new trainers being added to our team, we thought this would be a great time to get to know our BBCT staff a little better outside of the gym.

Nick Klein
1. Where are you from/ where did you grow up?
a. Grand Rapids MI. I grew up in Conklin, Michigan around farm country
2. What is your favorite dessert?
a. Ice cream all day
3. What is your favorite show/movie?
a. Sporting events for the most part. I also enjoy Cinderella Man as one of my favorite movies.
4. 10 million dollars shows up in your bank account, what’s the first thing you’re buying?
a. Pay off debt and look into owning a private plane

5. What is one of your favorite things to do outside of the gym?
a. Shoot at the gun range, golf, and hunt
6. Random/ interesting fact about yourself?
a. I stood on my head for 60 seconds in the 1st grade talent show.
7. Would you rather go skydiving or free diving with sharks?
A. I don’t like the idea of either, but probably sky diving.
8. What is your biggest piece of advice for our clients?
A. Fight to be consistent. Days to weeks, weeks to months, months to years. The goal is constant improvement that is sustainable.

Dylan Blazon
1. Where are you from/ where did you grow up?
a. Right here in Grand Rapids!
2. What is your favorite dessert?
a. A concrete mixer from Culvers with the right combination of toppings will always be my favorite.
3. What is your favorite show/movie?
a. Spider-Man 2
4. 10 million dollars shows up in your bank account, what’s the first thing you’re buying?
a. A beautiful house on a lake with lots of land for animals for my mother and a brand new boat for my father.

5. What is one of your favorite things to do outside of the gym?
a. Going out boating with friends and family in the summer and watching football, basketball and MMA in the fall and winter.
6. Random/ interesting fact about yourself?
a. My college football team played two seasons and won two titles in a single year in 2021 due to covid pushing the 2020 season to spring 2021.
7. Would you rather go skydiving or free diving with sharks?
a. Skydiving!
8. What is your biggest piece of advice for our clients?
A. Decide what your end goal is and then from that point forward focus on what you need to do one day at a time to achieve it and focus on that! Change doesn’t happen overnight so buy into the process and enjoy it! Be intentional with everything you do.

Nathan Kendrick
1. What is your go-to breakfast?
a. Venison steak and cashews

a. Changes pretty regularly but always a lower body lift

a. Big fan of the Tennessee Volunteers

a. I have no idea

a. No real “dream vacation”. There are certain sporting events that I would really
enjoy going to or maybe visiting certain historical sights.

a. Ask questions! I think understanding “the why” can be really motivating and help
create a better understanding of training, overall health, and achieving goals

Stephanie Roop

a. I am from Grand Rapids.

a. Anything chocolate!! Especially chocolate cake, but you can’t underestimate a classic chocolate chip cookie!!

a. I don’t watch much TV, and I definitely don’t watch many movies, but my favorite movie is a movie most people have probably never heard of, The Mighty Macs.

a. I’d go to Disney World.

5. What is one of your favorite things to do outside of the gym?
a. I love coaching basketball and hanging out with my husband and our dogs.
6. Random/ interesting fact about yourself?
a. I broke my middle finger in 9th grade at basketball practice because our coach was so mad at our passing she made us play monkey in the middle. I was in the middle and a ball hit my finger. I thought it was dumb so I didn’t tell anybody and continued practicing. By the time I told somebody it had healed so I would’ve needed surgery to re-break it and set it correctly so now my finger is permanently bent.
7. Would you rather go skydiving or free diving with sharks?
a. I’m not a big fan of planes, and I really don’t like water, so neither. I prefer my feet on the ground.
8. What is your biggest piece of advice for our clients?
a. This is your journey, don’t compare yourself to others.

a. It takes longer to create a habit than you realize. Practice consistency over perfection.

Lisa Bosch

Body By Choice started as "just a gym," but quickly became my community. I was fortunate enough to call this gym my home for over 2 years! When I first joined I was a little anxious; I had very little experience at gyms in general and was overwhelmed by previous attempts at public gyms. Body By Choice is EXACTLY what I was looking for!

The gym environment is perfect; clean, professional, and they have everything you need and then some. Everyone is always kind and respectful, and honestly a few of the clients and trainers have become some of my very best friends. Every single trainer always smiled and greeted me by name every day, even though I wasn't working with them! Over the years I built personal relationships with several trainers even though I wasn't their client; Rachel always made sessions fun and full of laughter, and Scott is a phenomenal trainer and has a hilarious sense of humor! Tiff is an amazing nutritionist, she's very kind and understanding, and took time to research dietary solutions that would best suit my personal needs.

My trainer, Dylan, is incredible. He's always smiling and ready to see me regardless of how late my appointment started. His knowledge about personal training goes far beyond a typical trainer, and he is always going the extra mile to further his expertise and find new ways to benefit each individual client. From training for Spartan Races to my personal goals, he spent time creating sessions that were tailored to my personal needs. His ability to match his client's energy means he can offer compassion and empathy, fun and laughter, intensity and encouragement, and everything in between. His impact on me was life changing, and not just because of my physical muscle and strength gains! Over the years, Dylan became a dear friend to me. He supported me through all kinds of personal struggles, including my mom's ALS diagnosis and subsequent disease progression. He has a unique gift of understanding where I was mentally and physically each session, and he used that gift to push me in just the right way driving my mental and physical growth. I am so grateful and appreciative for the difference he's made, and I can't overstate how much his impact on my life means to me.

As soon as my schedule allows, I will be rejoining my Body By Choice family, because that's honestly what this gym is to me - Family. ❤️

I can’t recommend BBCT highly enough. I’ve been training with Lisa B for several months, and she’s been instrumental in helping me improve my lifting form and overall technique. After dealing with a back injury outside the gym, she created a personalized program that’s helped me rebuild my core strength safely and effectively. Over the past month, I’ve noticed clear improvements in both my strength and mobility. The coaches’ expertise in stretch training is an added bonus that really enhances the overall experience.

I have been working out at Body by Choice for around a year and I strongly recommend them. The facilities are very clean and they have a comprehensive set of workout equipment. The owners as well as all of the trainers are very nice and outgoing.

I have been working with my current trainer Cheston for over six months and he is especially good. He is very knowledgeable on exercise physiology and does a good job developing a workout routine that matches your goals and explaining why you are doing a particular exercise and the benefit it provides.

I have also been occasionally meeting with their in-house health coach Tiffany. She is easy to talk to and helps you define your long-term goals and develop a plan to reach them.

Admittedly the membership cost is higher than your typical gym but that is to be expected with the level of attention that you get with their dedicated one-on-one training sessions, and overall, I believe the cost is worth it.

I worked out at Body By Choice for over two years. It was a fantastic experience training with Roy. He was able to get me pain free after a long bout of Sciatica. Roy was super knowledgeable and was able to work my bodies limitations. If I was unable to do a certain exercise he would come up with variations that would work for me.

Additionally, their stretch therapy was also amazing. I worked with Scott for those sessions and they helped keep my body limber.

The staff at BBCT are committed to seeing your body function improve. I would also highly recommend working with Tiffny to set some goals, it helps keep you focused.

I’ve been working with trainer, Dylan Blazon since July of last year. He’s been instrumental in helping me manage injury and training fatigue, increase muscle mass, and help me gain confidence lifting in the gym. I decided to train for my first 70.3 (half distance) triathlon this year and Dylan’s support and programming were instrumental in helping me cross the finish line. He built intentional workouts targeting muscle groups I most needed to get me through such a long multi sport event. Working with Dylan at BBC is never a one size fits all approach; he’s constantly adapting programming to meet you where you are and help move you towards reaching your goals. The results I’ve seen speak for themselves. I joined Body By Choice Training in November 2019, having reach a point where I was fed up with many failed attempts to find an exercise routine that I would stick with. I had never tried personal training, but after the first few sessions, I was hooked! I signed up for a 3 times a week program and have never looked back. I train with Rachael and she has done a wonderful job helping me obtain my goals. Recently, she helped me resolve a nagging shoulder impingement, coordinating my exercises with recommendations from a physical therapist. Since joining BBTC, I am stronger, leaner, and 15 pounds lighter -- and I am so happy with myself! Plus, with guidance from Tiffny, I have changed my eating habits with great results. Working out with a BBCT trainer is so much more efficient and yields great results because they know what you are capable of achieving and have a plan to get you there. Our trainer, Cheston Manes, has the education to guide us, the skills to monitor us, and the personality to inspire us and make it fun and productive. Now, about Roy. I can’t recommend him enough. His expertise goes well beyond that of a typical trainer. Whether you’re recovering from injuries, looking to build muscle, or aiming to lose weight, he creates a tailored plan for you and adjusts it weekly based on your progress. If you've ever wondered, "Am I doing this right?" with Roy, you won’t have to. He meticulously observes your form from every angle to ensure you're performing exercises correctly. I could keep going, but I’ll summarize by saying that Roy genuinely cares and works tirelessly to provide the best support for all his clients.

My trainer, Nathan H. has been excellent. I came in to this gym knowing absolutely nothing about exercising and fitness, but Nathan’s extensive knowledge and very clear methods of training have helped me grow in to a confident gym-goer. Throughout my time at Body by Choice Nathan has always been very encouraging and pushes me to excel during every training session.
All members also have 1-on-1 discussions on a regular basis with Tiffny, the nutritionist expert. She gave me very clear, achievable goals each meeting to accomplish before our next meeting. These small improvements eventually led to a huge change overall. I think anyone who listens to Tiffny’s advice and implements all of her suggestions will be well on their way to quickly achieving any fitness goal. She is also very knowledgeable and is always willing to answer any questions clients have.
The gym itself is exceptionally well taken care of; it is always clean, and instead of lockers there are private bathrooms for each client to use if they wish. It is rarely crowded, especially in the evenings and Saturday mornings when I go, which is very nice to never wait in line to use equipment. All of the staff and customers also are all very friendly which create a very pleasant atmosphere – I think anyone could be comfortable here as long as they are willing to take that first step in committing to becoming a healthier person.
I think anyone who has a clear goal for themselves and is willing to put in time to achieve that goal, and is also open to implementing suggestions from BBCT’s experts will find they make visible progress very quickly.

I highly recommend Body by Choice Training. I joined about 7 months ago and it truly has been the best investment in myself that I’ve ever made! Nathan H. is awesome and really knows his stuff! Nathan is very intentional, knowledgeable, and supportive, but still challenges you to be your best. I’ve noticed a ton of improvement in my strength and flexibility after working with Nathan. I've had a hip replacement and arthritis issues in the past, but since beginning training with Nathan, my joint pain is essentially gone.
Tiffny is also an amazing resource. She provides very realistic and doable tips to help you meet your goals. Meeting with Tiffny on a monthly basis has definitely helped to improve my overall nutrition.

I worked with Roy for a little over a year and I’m not exaggerating when I say he and this gym gave me the tools to change my life. I struggled with chronic sciatic pain for years. Now my pain is infrequent and quickly remedied. I also have a PCOS diagnosis. I was empowered through the process and it changed my relationship with my body. Prior to BBC, I did NOT feel comfortable in a gym of any type and working out was anxiety inducing because I didn’t know what I was doing. Additionally, I had been raised in a deprivation/restrictive environment when it came to what fitness looked like. Roy was very intentional about making sure I was comfortable, informed and more often than not laughing through the pain (for real, Roy does not play around but at least he’s nice about it). While this may not be important to everyone, but as someone who has struggled with an ED, it was healing for me that not once did anyone ever say I needed to make myself smaller or that I should be restricting my calories. Everyone at the gym is incredibly kind and I highly recommend their services.

I love Body by Choice! My trainer, Heather, has been awesome. With the program they set up for me, I work out two days a week on my own, and one day a week with Heather. It’s great for my schedule and budget. The exercise app is so easy to use, and there are videos linked with each exercise so I know what to do and the proper form.

Heather had been so encouraging and helpful in my fitness journey. She knows how to safely push my rep and weight limit boundaries so that I continue making gains!! This place has been great for not only my physical health, but my mental health too. I have a new group of girl friends now who are always supporting and encouraging one another. I have worked with Gina Huizingh at Body by Choice training for several years. During that time I lost approximately 100 pounds added muscle and recovered from three surgeries. It has been quite the journey.Gina is a unique combination of physical training expertise and having an innate knowledge of how to address particular problems. For example, after I tore my Achilles tendon and was going through a very long and painful recovery after surgery, she laid out a detailed plan to work through a number of phases to get the strength back without any setbacks. She has a plan for each workout and she notices every little thing. She is well liked by everyone that she works with, and I feel fortunate to be able to work with her

Since I have been working with Dylan and Scott after Heather transitioned to a different career, I wanted to highlight how wonderful these guys have been as my trainers. Scott is excellent at making me feel comfortable and empowered in my own strength. I know he'll make sure I'm doing everything with correct form and he is great at explaining exercises. I definitely always leave with a smile, a sense of accomplishment, and the anticipation of some sore muscles after our sessions. Dylan is great at making sure the science behind the exercise is in line with my goals. He makes sure that I don't hurt myself (which I've been guilty of in the past) by working in my weaker areas in ways I don't even notice. He and Scott are both great at collaborating with me to keep workouts fun but still very effective. The gym has become my happy place, and I continue to look forward to my sessions each week.

I started training at BBC in January and have actually stuck with it for almost a year! I joined because I wanted a change but had no idea where to start and how to use the machine. I also know that I need more than self-motivation. This gym is totally non-judgmental--just a group of clients all trying to achieve their personal goals with their trainers. I'm so glad that I was assigned Heather as my trainer. She is very adaptable and responsive to my requests, my goals, my favorite (and least favorite) exercise types. I look forward to training with her every week and catching up.
BBC also provides wellness coaching, and Tiff is very encouraging and helps define your goals with manageable strategies.
My only wish was that they would be open one or two hours longer on the Saturday for appointments.

5 months in and loving it. I joined the gym after having back surgery and 2 months of physical therapy. I realized I needed more help than physical therapy could provide. Nick and his trainers made a program around making me stronger where I needed it most. My first 3 months were 2 days a week, I am now training 3 days a week. Body by Choice is the best investment I have ever made in myself!

I have exercised my entire adult life – group fitness classes and cardio machines -- and managed to stay in decent shape. But at 60 I decided it was time for this old dog to learn new tricks if I wanted to remain active and travel in my retirement. I knew needed to get STRONG, and that meant tackling those scary free weight and intimidating weight machines. A health care professional whom I trust recommended Body by Choice and he did not steer me wrong.

The group truly cares about the unique and individual needs of every client and works to help you reach your goals by creating a personalized plan and giving you helpful tips and tools.

I am loving the results! I am getting stronger and have a confidence with weightlifting that I never imagined I would possess. My children who used to describe me as “fragile” are shocked when I tell them how much weight I am lifting, and my adult son, who began lifting weights as a high school athlete, is amazed at my proper form.

I thought weightlifting would be like bitter medicine, a drudgery that I would suffer through as a means to an end. Instead, I was shocked to discover that I LOVE weightlifting and it is something I look forward to doing and honestly wish I started doing decades ago.

I believe this life changing transformation was only made possible by Nick and his incredible Body by Choice team. I can’t say enough great things about Heather my trainer. She really listens to her clients and knows what motivates each person, no cookie cutter approaches here. I also learned a great deal from Tiffny. My whole life I thought about my diet in terms of what I needed to eliminate to remain healthy, she taught me to also think about what I needed to add to my diet to reach my goals.

The entire crew at Body by Choice has a wealth of knowledge that they are excited to share with their clients in a non-judgmental environment.

My only regret is that I didn’t discover Body by Choice earlier, but I am so very grateful that I am working with them now.

I'm a fairly active, early 40's finding it challenging to loose weight so my Doctor recommended weight training. So I did what most of us do, I googled it. Thankfully I found Body by Choice. Nick ,the owner, met with me for a tour and right from the start I felt very comfortable, he explained the approach and seemed very sincere about helping folks out. I decided that personal training was the way I need to go and have been working with Lisa. She has been fantastic! I really appreciate the motivation and accountability that she provides. She takes a very personal approach walking me through the routine she creates and helps every step of the way. The nutrionist Tiffny worked with me as well to come up with unique goals that will help with my food challenges. I'm about 1/2 way through the program and I feel stronger, using muscles I didn't even know I had and have lost a few pounds as well. Highly recommend Body by Choice to anyone that just needs that little extra push towards self care. Its been a game changer for me.

I have received the best fascia therapy stretching. One-on-one with my therapist Garret is unique and so personalized. His is a very professional and attentive. BBC staff are very friendly and helpful. My knee is improving each visit. Very knowledgeable staff to identify for your needs and abilities. Great explanation of treatment and help with pinpointing problem areas as well as exercises to overcome issues.

He tailored my program to fit my goals while also helping me recover from meniscus surgery and rebuild strength in my knee. This place has a nice private atmosphere which is perfect for someone like me who is still early on in their fitness journey. I never feel self conscious or judged by anyone which can be a big fear for a newbie.

I work with Stephanie and she is AWESOME!! If you can laugh with someone at 6am while you're pushing through a tough workout then they're doing something right! If there's something that she introduces that needs to modified, she can show you different ways to do it which is great. She's good at giving you the "why" behind what we're doing.

I also enjoy the check-ins with Tiffny - she has a ton of knowledge on how your body is processing not only the food we consume but also products we interact with daily.

I am definitely loyal to BBCT now and in the future. Honestly it's not even near where I live and work and it's so worth it to drive out there. I could not have started this fitness journey without them.

I have been going to Body By Choice Training since June. I have completed one twelve-week program and just recently started a new twelve week program. I have been able to work with three different trainers at Body By Choice. My trainers are Nate, Taylor and Andy I train with them three times a week. I have loved training with them and have felt stronger, healthier and better about myself since I’ve started. Each of them push and support me while I am training. They also have a nutritionist that is available to improve your nutrition. I highly recommend Body By Choice if you are looking to get in shape and improve your overall health. They are the experts :)

BBC is the most amazing gym I've ever been to. Not only is the equipment fantastic, clean and in really good shape. But they also pair you with a trainer. Since I've been going there, I've had the pleasure of working with Annamarie. She will push you and support you and encourage you. And if you show up, you will succeed.

In the time I've been going here, I've also gotten to know the other trainers along the way. Any trainer there, will be with you literally every step of the way. All of the plans are customized for you and your goals. They show you how to do things safely and very effectively. This is not a gym where you walk in the door and hop on a treadmill for 30 minutes because you don't know what else to do. You show up, you have a full workout plan waiting for you, you get a consistenly great workout.

I absolutely love Body By Choice Training! I completed my first twelve-week program recently and I have never felt better. Stephanie (my trainer) pushes me to do my best and tests my capabilities. I play professional hockey in Europe and I chose Body by Choice because of the elite level training programs they offer to athletes. I worked primarily with Nick and his colleague Kolby who are both very knowledgeable. Nick set up a personal program for me including diet, supplementation and a strength and conditioning routine that helped me reach my goals. In only 10 weeks I dropped 4% total body fat and put on 13 pounds of lean muscle. If you are serious about your sport and live in the Grand Rapids area you need to give them a call. I highly recommend Body by Choice.

I have been at BBC for almost a year. I have worked out with multiple trainers and they all bring something different to the session. Top that off with the nutrition help I have received and this place offers a total package customized specifically to me. My arthritic knee has never felt stronger. It's been an amazing experience, I highly recommend BBC!

Weekly training sessions at BBCT over the last year have been a crucial part to my strength development and lean muscle gain! Taylor's motivation and careful program planning has kept me focused and allowed me to realize my body's full capabilities as she pushes me for one more rep - something I would've given up on if I were by myself. Up until a year ago, I have always just trained individually and certainly continue to do so, but have found that even a weekly session has been incredibly beneficial with regards to reaching my fitness goals.

BBCT is AMAZING. Such an accommodating and friendly space to exercise. They guide you so well. The staff are amazing, the workout plans are challenging but fun, and it’s never too crowded. I love my trainer Stephanie! Check this place out!

I have been working with Taylor for about 4 months now and I’ve never felt more motivated and excited about working out -and these workouts can be intense! - as I do when coming here. I’ve seen and felt so much improvement, physically and mentally by pushing myself and having that support system to keep me going even when it gets tough. And it’s not just Taylor but all the other trainers and clients are supportive and friendly too. It’s also super awesome to hear my friends and family comment about how they have noticed how much better I’ve been looking and feeling lately since I’ve started training here! Highly recommend!!

I chose BBC based off of google reviews back in the spring. Their website was highly intriguing as well as their reviews, and for good reason. All of their trainers are extremely friendly, helpful and supportive. Their combination of professionalism, knowledge and kindness sets them apart from other gyms. Not only do they help you out with training but they also have a nutritionist who helps you with choosing better and healthier meals. If you have any questions about shakes or supplements they are more than happy to help you, however they never once pressured me into buying them.

Just going to the sessions twice a week with a trainer and eating healthier, they helped me lose 20 pounds in 12 weeks! All while gaining muscle and feeling stronger every week.

It is on the pricier side, but they have different plans that you can ask about and surely afford. Ultimately, you’re not only investing your money into the company, but into yourself and they will guide you every step of the way to help you meet your goals.

I have an excellent, knowledgeable trainer that works with me weekly and designs new workouts specifically for me. I have built so much strength in my body that I had lost for a long time, more than I had hoped for as I had worked with other trainers before without these results. And my positive results are evident in my medical assessment - my Doctor is very pleased with my numbers! Annamaire is a pleasure and joy to work with and has made a real difference in my life.

I have since the last post been paired with another trainer b/c previous trainer moved full time into mom mode🙂. So I work with Lisa now and truly could not ask for more. She is attentive to what my body can and cannot do and pushed me into moving toward strength but not at the expense of getting hurt. I’m no spring chicken so this is a big deal for me. Going to BBCt is a matter of life quality. There is an atmosphere of constant growth not just with clients but with the business as a whole. The people are good people, good to each other as well as clients. All of that matters very much to me. Plain and simple, I like going there!

As a “senior citizen” I was troubled with various signs of aging including lethargy, weight gain, dangerous falls and lower back pain when walking or doing chores. Cheston at Body by Choice has reversed all these symptoms and has given me a new lease on life. I was never comfortable in a gym environment and had no idea what I should do. Cheston and the “family” at Body by Choice erased my self-consciousness and made the experience something to look forward to. As a bonus, terrific weight and nutrition coaching is available from Tiffny, as well as on-line coaching. I can't say enough about Nathan and Body By Choice staff. They embrace and welcome you along with helping you achieve physical goals you never knew you could. The positive environment and having the one to one with a skilled trainer makes all the difference. Nathan and the other trainers are so very knowledgeable in their field of expertise which has allowed me to enjoy training. The benefits are priceless with my increased energy level and ability to focus more in my day to day life.

I came to Body by Choice knowing very little about working out or nutrition. I have about a month left in my program and I have learned A LOT. Andy does a fantastic job of teaching you the exercises and keeping you on a schedule that keeps you on your toes. No boredom here and certainly no room to slack off!! Tiffny has been super helpful in helping me with my nutrition plan and keeping me motivated by going over my body measurements. Can't say enough good things, keep up the good work!!

12 weeks ago, I joined BBC to gain strength and lose fat. I had major surgery in July of last year that left me very week. I met with Nick and put a plan together for nutrition and exercise with measurable goals. I’ve worked very hard under the watchful eye of Ann Marie, and met all my goals. I not only don’t want to lose what I gained, I want to take it to the next level. All of the staff at BBC are so supportive, it really is something I look forward to.

I never dreamed that at 62, surviving lung cancer, I’d be in the best shape of my life. So now I reach higher. Great facility, people and program.
